Enrollment for Level 4

Please contact BBT School Director Elizabeth Farotte Heenan with placement inquiries: lizfh@berkeleyballet.org

Dancers attend all days and times listed with a level’s schedule. Women’s Syllabus dancers attend Pointe classes; Men’s Syllabus dancers attend Men’s Technique classes.

Youth Division dancers in Levels 4–9 study the Women’s Syllabus or Men’s Syllabus; Syllabi supplement dancers’ combined Ballet and Modern training with classes in Pre-Pointe / Pointe and Men’s Technique. BBT welcomes each dancer to select their preferred Syllabus: Selection does not need to reflect a dancer’s gender identity. Level-specific Syllabi facilitate a dancer’s meaningful exploration of classical ballet and the pursuit of their long-term dance goals. BBT continues to step beyond the traditional rigidity of our art form by supporting dancers’ unique interests, ambitions, and objectives.

Level-specific Men and Women’s Syllabi are cumulative; BBT asks dancers to be consistent with their selection from season to season to avoid falling behind their classmates. We encourage dancers with questions regarding Syllabus choice to schedule a meeting with the Artistic Staff.

Teaching Assistants: Calling all Level 4–7 Dancers to join BBT as Teaching Assistants!

At the beginning of each season, BBT invites older Youth Division dancers to volunteer as Teaching Assistants in the Pre-Ballet Division and Level 1 classes. Volunteering as an Assistant is a wonderful opportunity to gain teaching experience; it also qualifies for community service credits and looks great on college applications. Having a higher level student in the room inspires and focuses younger dancers, offers instructors an extra set of eyes and hands, and contributes to the high level training and community feel that BBT values.

Pre-Ballet Division classes are 45 minutes – 1 hour in length and are held on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Level 1 classes are 1 hour in length and are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These classes run the entire Season and follow the same calendar as your Youth Division classes. Sunday Twinkle Toes classes are the only exception as they are offered in 10 week sessions and have different, scheduled breaks. Additionally, Assistants may perform alongside their dancers in the Pre-Ballet Showcase on June 6, 2020.

To sign-up as an Assistant, first enroll online, then email School Director Elizabeth Farotte Heenan at lizfh@berkeleyballet.org to select which class or classes you’d like to assist. Please make sure to check your own class schedule first to ensure there are no conflicts. Please know that when rehearsal or performance conflicts arise, you are to prioritize attending the requirements of your own Level’s schedule. We ask that you notify your teacher of any conflicts or missed classes ahead of time.
